About

Can You Use AI answers one kind of question: "can I use AI to…?" Write a cover letter, do my taxes, edit my book, is it illegal to use AI art. People ask these all the time, and the answers are scattered across legislation, regulator guidance and platform rules. We pull them together in one place, for free.

There are 32 questions live across 8 sections: work and careers, writing, running a business, money and tax, study and education, creative work, law and rights, and everyday life. Every page opens with a verdict and a direct answer, then "How to do it well", then "Rules and risks", with every source linked at the bottom.

Who it is for. Anyone in the UK about to use AI for something specific who wants to know first whether they're allowed to, and what could trip them up. A job seeker checking what an employer permits. A student checking what counts as malpractice. A small business owner checking the ad code before an AI-made campaign goes out.

How it works in practice. Pick a section or type into the search box, which filters the questions inside your browser without sending what you type anywhere. Each page gives one of four verdicts. Yes means nothing special applies beyond normal care. Yes, with care means there's a rule, a disclosure duty or a real risk to handle. It depends means the answer turns on your situation, and the page says what it turns on. No means it isn't allowed, or AI can't do it reliably enough to depend on.

What makes it different. The verdict comes from two things together: the rules that apply and what current AI tools can actually do. We prefer primary sources, such as legislation, regulators, official guidance and published platform and institution policies, and if a claim has no source, we don't publish it. Some pages show a panel of products made by our studio. Those panels always say the product is ours, they only appear where they fit the question, and a verdict never depends on them.

Where it stands now. Live, with 32 answered questions: 5 Yes, 21 Yes with care, 1 It depends and 5 No. Every page has a Markdown copy, and the full site is published in llms.txt and llms-full.txt for AI assistants.

What it deliberately does not do. It isn't legal, financial or medical advice; it is general information for UK readers, and for a decision that matters it tells you to check the source and ask a qualified professional. There's no sign-up, no cookies and no forms that collect personal details. Analytics are first-party and anonymous, never storing your IP address or what you searched for.
