Most explanations of GEO are either a sales pitch or a rumour. whatisgeo.app is neither: a single-page field guide for business owners and marketers that explains what Generative Engine Optimisation means, how a search-backed AI answer actually happens (query, discover, select, answer), and which of the usual recommendations are platform requirements, which are research findings, and which are just sensible advice.
It includes six principles, a section on letting the right crawlers in (search retrieval and model training are different permissions), a worked rewrite of a product page, a realistic 30-day starter plan, and a repeatable way to measure progress with a fixed prompt set. Every claim links to its source.
The guide practises what it preaches: the whole thing is served to AI systems as Markdown and plain text alongside an llms.txt, with a strict content-security policy and no analytics. An optional email list announces new guides. Live at whatisgeo.app.
